Spa Electrics Argon AGRX R1 Multi Plus LED Retro-Fit Pool Light
🏷️ Brand
Spa Electrics
📝 Description
The Spa Electrics Argon AGRX R1 Multi Plus is a 12V, 15W RGB+W LED retro-fit pool light that replaces standard-size niche lights from Aquaquip, Astral, Autumn Solar, Sunline/Rivendale, Waterco and Spa Electrics WN150, with a 130 mm white or grey rim and an IPX8 rating, designed and made in Australia.
It is built to swap into your existing niche, usually without joining cable or lowering the water level. A tool-less quick-connect plug fits onto your existing 4.5 to 12 mm power cable, so the swap can take as little as 15 minutes. If your existing transformer is a 12V AC iron-core safety-isolating type rated at least 15 W per light, you can keep it. If you need a new one, we stock Spa Electrics 12V transformers for one LED light or two LED lights. The forward heatsink design helps keep the LED cool for a longer life.
The Multi Plus LED gives you seven static colours (including a 4000K true white) and four light shows. You can run it from a wall switch, a Spa Electrics iRIS remote controller or major-brand pool controllers, and the white or grey rim lets you match your plaster, tile or pebble finish.

💡 Before You Buy
-
Will it fit? The R1 suits standard-size niches. Check your existing light against the Spa Electrics AGRX R1 Retro-Fit Guide and the niche table in the R1 installation manual before you order.
-
Extra parts for some niches. Fibreglass pools with Astral SLX, Arc or Delta or Aquaquip niches need the AGRX R1 fibreglass skirt (AGRX 004R1), sold separately. Sunline niches need the AGRX 001R1 Sunline adaptor kit and Autumn Solar niches need the AGRX 002 friction fit adaptor.
-
Check your transformer. It must be a 12V AC iron-core safety-isolating transformer rated at least 15 W per light, and in good working order. A DC supply, LED driver, or electronic or switch-mode transformer will damage the light and void the warranty. Need one? See our Spa Electrics 12V 25VA transformer (1 LED light) or 12V 50VA transformer (2 LED lights).
-
Different light or niche? Mini niches and flush-mount niches use the AGRX R2 and R3, which are separate Spa Electrics models. If you have a Spa Electrics WN or EM series light, see the WNRX or EMRX, and for surface-mounted lights see the GKRX. You can also browse all our pool lights.
-
Installation and safety. Spa Electrics says installation should be done by a suitably qualified person, such as a registered pool builder or qualified electrician where required, in line with AS/NZS 3000:2018.
-
Controlling the colours. It works from a standard wall switch. An iRIS remote controller is optional, and setup mode is only needed if you are connecting to a pool controller.
🔧 Our Tips
-
Always switch the power off first. Make sure the power is off before you take the old light out, and keep the old mounting screws because you reuse them.
-
Check you have enough cable. There should be enough cable behind the existing light to bring it above the water for servicing. Remove any coroded cable but don't cut away more than absolutely necessary.
-
Pick the right gland. You need a snug fit to keep moisture out.
-
Keep it clean and dry. Don't add sealants, greases or adhesives, and don't assemble the plug underwater.
-
Warm the lanolin. If you warm the supplied lanolin before you use it, it'll be much easier to work with, especially in winter. Don't artificially heat it, tucking it under your armpit while you prepare the light is enough.
-
Line up the arrows. Twist the light into the adaptor plate clockwise until the arrows lock, then press the rim on by hand.
-
Test it. Turn the power back on and check the light works before you put it in the wall, and again once fully installed.
❓ Common Questions
-
Will the Argon AGRX R1 fit my existing pool light? It is made for standard-size niches and replaces Astral SLX, Arc and Delta, Aquaquip EVO2, EvoMax, Aquastar and Aurora, Autumn Solar Niche, Spa Electrics WN150, Sunline / Rivendale and Waterco Britestream / 165 lights.
-
Do I need any extra parts? For some niches, yes. Fibreglass pools with Astral or Aquaquip niches need the AGRX 004R1 fibreglass skirt, Sunline niches need the AGRX 001R1 Sunline adaptor kit and Autumn Solar niches need the AGRX 002 friction fit adaptor. The retro-fit guide shows which one applies to your light.
-
Can I keep my existing transformer? Yes, if it is a 12V AC iron-core safety-isolating transformer rated at least 15 W per light and in good working order. DC supplies, LED drivers and electronic or switch-mode transformers are not suitable. If you need a new one, see our Spa Electrics 1 light and 2 light transformers.
-
Do I need an electrician to install it? Spa Electrics says installation should be done by a suitably qualified person, such as a registered pool builder or qualified electrician where required, following AS/NZS 3000:2018.
-
How do I change the colours? Use a wall switch, a Spa Electrics iRIS controller or a compatible major-brand pool controller. Setup mode is only needed to connect to a pool controller or iRIS.
